Summary
The Library Finance department contributes to the success of the University of Michigan Library in Ann Arbor by delivering accurate financial support to each division and across the library. As the Budget Analyst Senior you will collaborate with transactional specialists and other colleagues within Finance & HR to lead efforts to provide budgetary support to specific divisions within the library and library wide analysis. Your role is crucial in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities. Your role will be technical, with competencies in financial modeling and analysis. You will also serve as the financial lead contact for assigned divisions within the library. You will help establish procedures for the programmatic budget model within the library. You will work directly with the Library Finance Director, Finance Manager, and other finance team members in many library wide budget deliverables, including the provost’s budget submission process, annual salary programs, the allocation of funds within the library, library wide budget projections, internal controls, and year-end close-out. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build successful relationships with colleagues at all levels. You will report to the Library Finance Director.

What You’ll Do
- Coordinate daily budget activities.
- Manage complex budget projects.
- Compile and provide information to library leaders regarding budget and account activities, and personnel rosters.
- Monitor and reconcile budgets, accounts, and rosters, and review related activities for compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Use advanced budgeting and financial software to evaluate data, provide projections, and generate financial reports.
- Perform comprehensive financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, offering insights to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
- Implement systems for improved efficiency and accuracy in budgeting and forecasting.
- Participate in developing and implementing strategic directions and objectives for the Library Finance department.
- Assist in the installation of budgetary control systems.
- Train newly assigned or less experienced finance staff.

Required Qualifications*
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
- 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and budgeting.
- Demonstrated expertise in working with reporting software (such as Business Objects, Tableau, etc.) and databases (such as SQL and Oracle) with an understanding of database reporting, structure and data management.
- Demonstrated experience using advanced spreadsheet functions (such as Excel Pivot tables, VLookup.)
- Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis within established timelines with the ability to present complex financial data in understandable terms.
- Knowledge in financial planning, strategic analysis, budget formulation, execution of budgets, and budget and financial reporting.
- Experience coordinating and communicating complex budget activities with others, including formulation, monitoring, and delivery of budget presentations for complex programs.
- Experience performing work that is varied and challenging while working in an environment of fluctuating priorities.
- Experience with process improvement efforts.
