Position Summary:
Jackson State University, a member of the NCAA Division I (FCS) and Southwestern Athletic Conference, is seeking applicants for the Assistant Director of Sports Media position. This role involves promoting and increasing awareness of the university’s athletics teams, events, and initiatives through various media channels.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, mass communications, or English.
- Minimum Required Experience: At least two years of experience in a communications or journalism position primarily focused on college or professional sports. Web content management experience is required.
- Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications: None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with publicizing programs via social media and digital platforms.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop content themes and concepts to promote athletics teams, events, and initiatives.
- Write press releases and game stories.
- Compile and maintain statistical information.
- Maintain the athletics web page.
- Create content for social media and digital platforms.
- Coordinate with media and sports information offices of competing institutions and conferences to disseminate results effectively.
